Camponotus japonicus

Camponotus japonicus

Large Carpenter ant from Asia, jet black in colour and good growth rate.

Food: Proteins and sugars. Such as crickets, locusts, fruit flies and sugar water/honey.

Temperatures: 22-26 centigrade.

Nesting Requirements: Ytong is best suited for this species, like most Camponotus. In our opinion they also require some sort of substrate to begin establishing properly.

Hibernation: No.

Skill Level: Medium.

Special Notes: Seem to be easy to found, however colonies can be harder to grow bigger - best advice is to add substrate! This is a hugely over looked fact, however it seems colonies provided with substrate and not just tubes succeed far more.
